What Is The Story About The Tree Trunk On The Book Cover?

Often people ask about the symbolism behind the great cover of my book, Your Life Manual: Practical Steps to Genuine Happiness, and what a tree has to do with genuine happiness. I wrote a bit about it on the website created for the book: Happiness.

Or if you prefer to go directly to that page, Symbolism of Roots, you will find how the image and the importance of having a good, solid framework or foundation for our lives is so important at this time.

On a slightly different track, I am gathering whatever reviews and reader's comments I can about the book; so if you have read it, I would love to receive your comments - whether good or bad. If you would like the see what some people have been saying so far, a collection of these reviews and comments have been assembled at: Reviews, and what people say. There are a number of other reviews from various publications coming out soon, and we plan to add them to the site as they appear.

A Little Extra Happiness

A short while ago, I was in a Hallmark store with Melanie for something or other, and I suddenly noticed this little figurine which really spoke to me on a shelf next to the till. I had a closer look at it, and noticed that it is titled "Happiness" - so of course I had to buy it!

I am not the kind of guy who buys ornaments or things that don't have a practical purpose, yet I was taken by the simplicity and innocence of this one. According to the card that comes with it, in this range of figures by artist Susan Lordi, each is devoid of facial features - no mouth, eyes, or nose. The emotion expressed by each is conveyed purely by the pose. The tilt of the head, the position of the arms, and so on.

This one is a perfect example, and makes me appreciate my happiness each morning when I lay eyes on her!

Political Statements?

I asked a website professional to do a critique of the website for the "Your Life Manual" site earlier this week. Most of her comments were either complimentary, or very valid and constructive criticism - but one thing she said rather surprised me. She suggested that I remove the links to my other "political" websites ...!

What, me political? If anything, I always thought I was (if anything) anti-political. Furthermore, I have never considered any of my published stuff political, websites included.

And yet, I can see that some of it may be considered to be mildly political activist kind of stuff - if you consider being anti-war, and pro-peace & harmony, political.

I felt this way about the South African apartheid regime, and I feel it about the current Iraq and Afghanistan conflict. And the ongoing Sudan and the Israel/Lebanon upheavals. I will feel the same way about whatever and wherever the next war occurs.

Political? ...No, I don't think so.
Politically Incorrect? ...Perhaps, but that mood shifts all the time.
Morally correct? ...Yes, no question!
